Brown & Sharpe Through Centuries

Take a step back into the Victorian Era. Take a step into Providence Rhode Island. And finally, take another step into the Capital Industry Center; into the so-called, “The Foundry”. Brown and Sharpe formed a partnership by starting out producing the basic tools that a machinist needs in order to work on a project successfully. In the 1950s, Brown impacted the company's pathway to success. He was extremely loyal and focused on raising the accuracy in tools that one would see in a machine shop. He wanted better than the best.

Impact

Brown & Sharpe made an impact in the tooling industry more than one hundred years ago as well as today. They invented machines to help improve the manufacturing process of automobiles and airplanes, as he created a product which would improve efficiency of operations. He also designed the Micrometer Caliper of 1868, which was the world's first product to be mass produced. Even after Brown died, Oscar J. Beale stepped in and kept the business striving. He became the head of creating the mechanical design for the products, whereas he invented more products while also improving the technology by creating an automatic screw machine. The company was passed down, as they kept the business thriving better than ever.

Success

Their success depended on if they could keep up with the technological advances that are constantly evolving in this world, which they successfully did. The company became the United States leading automobile and aviation industry manufacturer.
